Here is a description of my grandfather's MP career that I got from the Marechaussee (MP) Museum in Buren.

  • 9 March 1896 3rd regiment field-artillety as numberchanger with Peter Willem GELEIJNSE; draft 1896 Haamstede municipality no 1;
  • 9 March 1896 Gunner;
  • 18 September 1896 voluntary commitment as "Stukrijder" (gun driver);
  • 5 March 1898 Corporal;
  • 28 May 1898 Transfer to 1st division Royal MP (Marechaussee)  as mounted MP with contract for 6 years;
  • 28 May 1904 new contract for 1 year;
  • 28 May 1905 new contract for 1 year;
  • 28 May 1906 new contract for 6 years;
  • 28 May 1912 new contract for 3 years;
  • 28 May 1915 new contract for 6 years;
  • 28 May 1921 new contract for 6 years;
  • 9 May 1900 brigadeer titular mounted  (brigadier titulair te paard)
  • 12 November 1909 brigadeer mounted (brigadier te paard)
  • 1 September 1913 brigadeer 1st class mounted (brigadier te paard 1e klas)
  • 3 May 1915 the rank of brigadeer mounted was changed into segeant mounted (wachtmeester te paard)
  • 8 July 1916 sergeant-major mounted (opperwachtmeester te paard)

Medals:

  • 9 March 1902 6 years faithful duty
  • 9 March 1908 12 years faithful duty
  • 9 March 1914 18 years faithful duty
  • 9 March 1920 24 years faithful duty

1 May 1925 retirement.

  • 15 November 1902 transfer to 1st division royal MP as Marechaussee te paard (Mounted MP)
  • 2 March 1907 1st chevron for 6 years faithful duty
  • 29 August 1908 dismissed on his own request
